spring craft party

I’ve been living in a world full of dirt and trucks for the past 2 years and while I absolutely adore being a boy-mom, I needed some pink in my life. With spring in the air and the weather a perfect 70 degrees, I decided that it was the perfect excuse to throw a backyard craft party – with lots of pink. I was originally inspired by Ode to Inspiration’s hot chocolate craft party and have been wanting to get my friends together for some crafting ever since. Add in some wine and chocolate, and there you have the recipe for the perfect party!

After some time on pinterest, I decided that we would make spring yarn wreaths during the party. A simple enough craft for the less craft inclined and something we could do while chatting. I rounded up some pool noodles to use as wreath forms and my guests brought their favorite skein of yarn (after I explained what a skein was to them). The Hair Bow Company sent us some fabulous flower embellishments and ribbon to decorate our wreaths (stay tuned for a future tutorial). All of the wreaths turned out super cute – some more unique and creative than others. Everyone had a great time, even the novice crafters in the group.

Let’s talk decor. I went with a pink, yellow, green and white plaid theme with doily accents throughout. Mason jars and candle hurricanes were decorated with doilies, tied together with hemp string. I found the picket fence at my local hardware store and thought it made the perfect backdrop for the giant gardener Easter bunny I found at Home Goods (my fave store). My friend Nicole of Petal Wishes made the adorable doily lanterns below. She also hand punched a million white paper bags to look like lace at the top and we used them to light a path to the backyard, where the party was held (I sadly never took a photo of this). I strung lights throughout the backyard and lit a few tiki torches, oh how I love the ambiance of nighttime parties! I’ll be putting up tutorials for my spring bunting flags and felt rose topiary soon, but let’s just say that I never want to see felt again anytime soon!

I know you’re probably wondering what all of the yummy looking stuff is. I made chocolate covered oreos, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate bunny suckers and chocolate cupcakes topped with edible roses (courtesy of my talented mama). My mom also made those adorable royal icing plaid bunny cookies, aren’t they the cutest?! As many of you know, I started a mama bootcamp 4 weeks ago and I’ve been on a health kick lately. A few of the mamas from the bootcamp rsvp’ed for the party, so I decided to include some healthier options. I offered “healthy cupcakes”, which consisted of fruit in pretty pink baking cups topped with a ribbon flag. I also made mini carrot patches in tiny terracotta pots, which were baby carrots topped with parsley in hummus (thanks to Taste and Tell for the idea). There was, of course, wine (Trader Joe’s bubbly pink moscato went fast) and IZZE sent over a bunch of their yummy sparkling juices (sparkling clementine was a favorite).

Now that the party came and went, I’m getting the party planning itch again. Good thing Logan’s 2nd birthday isn’t too far away!
