I made this ruffled butt baby onesie for Amelia while I was still pregnant with her. She’s still in newborn sized clothing, so she doesn’t fit into it quite yet, but I couldn’t wait to share the tutorial with you. After being immersed in all things dinosaurs and bugs for the past 3 years with my son, a little bit of ruffles and pink has been fun. I found the ruffled trim in the ribbon and fabric section of Hobby Lobby, but you can find similar trim at just about any fabric store. This project is perfect for the novice seamstress and makes for a great baby shower gift!
Materials
prewashed onesie
ruffled ribbon trim
scissors
sewing pins
sewing machine
Directions
Step 1: Pin and layer your ruffled ribbon trim to the back of the onesie, starting from the bottom and just above where the leg holes sit. You’ll need 6 layers and will be cutting them long enough to fit from one side seam to the other.
Step 2: Once your 6 layers are pinned in place, start sewing them in place. Start with the bottom layer and work your way up, sewing the very top of each ribbon piece. My ribbon had a seam running along the top of it, so I just sewed right on top of that seam.
Step 3: Find a cute baby to put your new ruffled butt onesie on!
