(tot school) disney frozen sensory activities for toddlers

We can’t wait for Disney’s new movie FROZEN to hit theaters on November 27th! My 3 year old asks to watch the FROZEN preview over and over on his Disney Planes DVD, so I’m sure it’s going to be a big hit with him. He cracks up every time Olaf, the funny little snowman, comes on screen. We recently took a little shopping trip to Walmart and came home with some fun FROZEN toys. He was super pumped about the talking Olaf toy that we found.

As a mom who encourages reading any chance I get, I was happy to see so many FROZEN related books. I especially love the “Step Into Reading” books, because they are simple enough for early readers to read. We also found a FROZEN themed “My Busy Book” toy that comes with a book, miniature figurines from the movie and a play mat. It’s small enough to take to grandma’s and it keeps him busy for hours as he makes the little FROZEN toys come to life.

I have a tip for the moms out there who want to take their toddler to see this movie, but who are afraid that their child might not last through the entire movie: TOYS. Introduce your kiddos to the movie ahead of time through the movie’s toys. It doesn’t have to be a large, expensive toy and it can even be a book, but they’ll be so excited to see characters they already know come to life on the big screen. I even let my kiddo take a couple toy figurines inside the movie theater with him so he has something to keep him occupied during long movie previews.

I created a few sensory activities using Logan’s new FROZEN toys. They were such a huge hit that these activities have been on repeat around here all week! We are all so excited for November 27th!

FROZEN Ice Sensory Play

Materials:

FROZEN My Busy Book

Silicon Ice Mold (I used a baby food mold and was able to freeze 2 toys in each section)

Large Bowl & Serving Spoons/Tongs or Sink

Instructions: Freeze the miniature figurines from the FROZEN My Busy Book set in a silicon ice mold overnight. Once frozen, pop out the ice and place them in a bowl. Allow your child to melt the ice and get to the figurines by swirling it around with a serving spoon and picking it up with tongs. You can also fill a sink with water and drop the frozen figurines in the water for sink play.

FROZEN Sensory Bin Activity

Materials:

Disney FROZEN Small Doll Complete Story Set

Disney FROZEN Small Doll Sleigh

Tin Disposable Pan or Plastic Bin

Floral Gems (clear & blue)

Felt Tree (can be found at Walmart in the floral section)

White Pom Poms

Instructions: Place gems in tin pan or plastic bucket. Place remaining materials on top of the gems. Allow child to explore the sensory bin and be creative. I recommend placing the sensory bin on a rug and restricting bin play to that area to help contain the potential mess. Kids will love feeling the texture of the gems and creating different play scenes with the figurines.
