My preschooler goes back to school today and I made him a special after school treat to celebrate. I turned red gumballs into the cutest miniature apples, the perfect cupcake toppers! They are easy to create and will give even store bought cupcakes a homemade touch. Don’t forget to make a batch for the teachers on the first day of school, I’m sure they would appreciate a little sugary pick me up! You can find the green sugar paper, what I used to make the leaves, in most baking aisles or craft stores. It’s typically used with coordinating sugar sheet punches, but you can also use scissors or shaped cutters to cut through it.

INGREDIENTS

Red Gumballs

Red Icing

Green Sugar Paper

Leaf Cutter

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Make your favorite cupcakes. I highly recommend my lemon cupcake recipe or if you don’t have much time, pick some up from a local bakery.

Step 2: Using a leaf shaped cutter, cut a leaf into the sugar paper. You really have to press hard to get it to cut. You can also use kitchen scissors to cut a leaf shape.

Step 3: Place a dab of red icing on the gumball and stick the green leaf to the icing.

Step 4: Place the apple gumball on top of the cupcake and enjoy!
