Meet my son’s cat Sparkles. She was left behind (on purpose) when her previous owner moved and my husband took her in long before we were married. A man who loves a cat is a keeper, people. Sparkles is pretty much the sweetest and most tolerant cat in the world, so the original owner’s loss is our gain. I say that she is my son’s cat because they are inseparable. From the moment Logan was born they have been two peas in a pod. She follows him around during the day, makes sure to sleep right in front of his door at night and immediately starts purring when near him. She was also very (VERY) patient with him during the toddler stage of tail pulling and attempting to ride her like a horse. “Cats aren’t horses” was a very common phrase in my household back then.

For whatever reason, Sparkles claimed Logan as hers and I’m happy that they have each other. She has proven to be therapeutic for him and he feels very proud of the fact that out of everyone in the family, Sparkles picked him. Having an animal can be so great for teaching responsibility and empathy. Now that Logan is 5, he’s able to feed his cat and help with the litter. Our litter of choice is Cat’s Pride® Fresh & Light Ultimate Care®. We originally picked Fresh & Light Ultimate Care because the cat on the cover reminded us of Sparkles, but we continue using it because of the low dust, great odor control, strong clumps and minimal tracking. Speaking of odor control, we’re getting crafty today for our furbabies and making homemade lavender air fresheners. Combine the air freshener with Fresh & Light Ultimate Care litter and your litter box room will smell wonderful!

MATERIALS

Mason jar

DIRECTIONS

Step 1: Head to Walmart to pick up Fresh & Light Ultimate Care, now 50% lighter at 10lbs (†see packaging for details), and the rest of your supplies. Check for offers on the Cat’s Pride website. We recently discovered that a portion of every sale of Fresh & Light Ultimate Care supports the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation™ and their mission to end animal cruelty. So awesome! This all clay formula is also US mined and Cat’s Pride has over 50 years of cat litter experience. That must explain the 10+ day odor control & powerful absorption (*based on laboratory testing, when used as directed).

Step 5: Place the scrapbook paper circle into the rim of the lid, leaving the inside part off, and screw it onto the jar. Poke several holes into the scrapbook paper using a pin or needle.
