(giveaway) cutting edge stenciled nursery wall reveal

June 13, 2013 By Vanessa 19 Comments

Disclosure: I was not financially compensated for this post. I received a sample for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.

My stenciled nursery wall is FINALLY finished and I’m so excited to share it with you! I wanted something subtle, but something that would still make the wall pop. I wanted something modern, but still feminine. Now you can understand why it took me so long to decide on a stencil. Cutting Edge Stencils has so many beautiful stencils and possibilities. After asking for your advice on my blog and instagram, I finally decided on the Cascade Allover Stencil Pattern and I absolutely love the end result! The background color is called Rose Water by Dunn Edwards (low-VOC paint) and I used white acrylic paint for the stencil (yup, craft paint).

Stenciling a wall does require some time and patience, but it is fairly easy to accomplish (even at 30ish weeks pregnant) and totally worth the effort! Aside from taping the wall off and washing the stencil between uses, I did all of the stenciling by myself (mostly because I’m a stubborn perfectionist who doesn’t ask for help lol). I was originally planning on stenciling the wall behind the crib, but decided it would look too busy and wouldn’t pop as much with a white crib. So, I decided to stencil the wall where baby’s coral dresser will go and I’m so glad I did. I just finished painting her dresser and it looks fabulous in front of this wall. I cannot wait to blog a reveal of the entire nursery…just a few more things to do!

My wall stenciling tips:

1. Sit in the room you plan on stenciling and plan out where your furniture will go before deciding on a wall to stencil. This will save you from having to re-paint over a wall (which may or may not have happened to me).

2. Watch Cutting Edge’s “How To Stencil a Feature Wall” video before you start.

3. Practice on a piece of cardboard. You’ll quickly learn how much pressure and paint you’ll need to apply.

4. Do you first few stencils in daylight. Paint will look completely different at night and you’ll want to make sure that you get your desired color and effect before stenciling an entire wall.

5. Use a clip-on stencil level for best results. Your eyes and some of these patterns can be deceiving, so it helps to have an accurate guide to help everything line up neatly.

6. Recruit an assistant. While it’s totally possible to stencil an entire room by yourself, it’s nice to have another set of hands helping out.

7. Have patience. If you get tired, it’s okay to walk away and come back to the project tomorrow. It took me 3 days to complete this project.
