This Velveeta cheese fondue recipe makes for a fun at home date night idea! My husband and I have a little anniversary tradition where we go out for fondue. Baby #2’s due date just so happens to coincide with our wedding anniversary this year, so I decided to create an at home fondue recipe for us. We recently did a little test run and I used “liquid gold” (aka Velveeta) cheese because I love the convenience and taste of it. It turned out yummy and my husband has already requested a second batch before our wedding anniversary next month! Luckily, it’s super easy to prepare and the consistency of the Velveeta makes for a great fondue dip. This recipe makes enough for around 4 people, so you can either cut it in half or put half away for later if it’s just 2 of you. You could also invite another couple over for a fun fondue double date – so very 70’s of you!
Ingredients (makes enough for 4-6 people)
2lb Original Velveeta Loaf (cubed)
2 tbsp Flour
1/2 cup Vegetable Stock]
1/2 tsp black pepper
2 tsp Garlic Paste or Chopped Garlic
2 tsp Mustard Powder
1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
Dipping Ingredients
1 Green Granny Smith Apple
Sourdough Bread
Cauliflower, Broccoli & Carrots
*You’ll also need a medium pan, mixing spoon and small fondue pot.
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare your fondue “dippers”. Slice your apple into bite sized pieces and cut the sourdough bread into small cubes. Wash your veggies.
Step 2: Slice Velveeta cheese loaf into 1/2 inch cubes and toss with 2 tablespoons flour.
Step 3: Combine vegetable stock, black pepper, garlic paste (or chopped garlic), mustard powder and Worcestershire sauce in a medium pot over low-medium heat. Add 1/2 of the Velveeta cubes to the mixture and constantly stir until melted. Add the rest of the Velveeta cubes to the mixture and constantly stir until melted.
Step 4: Pour the cheese fondue into your cheese fondue pot (don’t forget to light the candle) and enjoy immediately! My small fondue pot ( 4.5 x 4 x 4.8 inches) could only hold 1/2 of the cheese fondue, which was perfect for 2 people, so I saved the rest in the refrigerator and we had another fondue party the next day. If you are making this recipe for 4 or more people, make sure you have a large enough fondue pot or 2 small ones will work.
