I’m sharing a shark infested vanilla pudding recipe as part of a sponsored post for Cheerios™ and Acorn. #SummerOfCheerios
Summertime is here and I’m always on the lookout for creative ways to keep my kids busy that doesn’t involve screen time. At least a couple times a week, we like to create a snack or treat recipe together. There’s so much kids can learn in the kitchen, from mathematics to reading. Hands on learning is my favorite! This week, in honor of shark week, we created shark infested vanilla pudding. I included an easy recipe for homemade vanilla pudding, but if you’re short on time you can pick up a package of premade pudding. My 5 year old enjoyed measuring out the ingredients and mixing, while my 2 year old had a blast crushing the Cheerios™ for our edible “beach sand”. Enjoy and beware of sharks!
INGREDIENTS & SUPPLIES
1 cup vanilla pudding (see recipe & additional ingredients in step 1)
1/2 cup crushed Cheerios™
1/2 pint jar
blue food coloring
drink umbrella
gummy shark
DIRECTIONS
Step 1: You can make your own vanilla pudding or buy store bought pudding. This easy recipe will make 5 servings. Heat 2 cups of milk in a saucepan over medium heat, continuously stirring until the milk bubbles. Add 1/2 cup sugar, 3 tablespoons cornstarch and a pinch of salt to the saucepan, stir until the ingredients dissolve. Don’t allow the ingredients to come to a boil. Continue to stir until the pudding thickens. Remove from heat and mix in 1 tablespoon butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Allow to cool.
Step 2: Once the vanilla pudding is cooled, add 6 drops of blue food coloring and mix. Add 1 cup of vanilla pudding to a 1/2 pint jar to create a shark infested pudding jar.
Step 3: Pick up a box of Cheerios™ from Walmart (don’t forget to print out a coupon). Place the cereal in a baggy and crush with a rolling pin. You’ll need 1/2 cup of crushed Cheerios™ for each jar. Add 1/2 cup of crushed Cheerios™ to each jar, on top of the pudding.
Step 4: Add a gummy shark and drink umbrella on top of the crushed Cheerios™ and enjoy!
