Halloween: Fun Learning Printables for Kids

Pumpkin: Stages of Halloween Pumpkin Being CarvedHalloween Free Learning Activities for Kids

Children are aware Halloween is coming long before the actual day arrives. Excitement builds, anticipation grows, and along the way it is good for parents and teachers to provide seasonal activities. We can “sneak in learning” when the children think they are just having fun. Activity pages allow children to talk while they work, sharing their costume and holiday plans. All of this benefits parents and teachers as it helps children express their excitement and happiness as well as helping to prevent behavior meltdowns. This is true for seasonal learning and why so many educational resources have holiday themes. Children are more willing to learn when the lessons and materials catch their fancy and imagination with happy holiday thoughts.

This educational printable PDF includes coloring pages which require little time or preparation on the part of the adults. They can just be printed and are ready for use. They can be used when waiting to trick or treat, decorate the house or classroom, or just provide an opportunity to use seasonal colors of crayons. Some of the pages have a Halloween theme, and some have a nocturnal animal theme. The children will be going out at night and so it is a good time to discuss the animals that might also be awake. Like I said, sneak in some learning along with the fun.

There are two pages that have words that would work well for a game of charades. These might be colored by children who want to help. The cards would be cut apart and placed in a pumpkin pail and draw out one at a time. The children should be shown the cards prior to having the guess the words. This activity could be repeated a few times during the month.

There are word work pages, also, and a writing page. Children are surprisingly eager to work on spelling when the words are fun, such as Halloween and pumpkin. One generic blank writing frame with a pumpkin vine border may be used for children to simply record words from the word cards, or to write stories. One trace the words page is also provided for emergent writers. Most of the pages could also be colored.
