I thought it might be helpful to give you a run down of my must have baby items in the first couple weeks. I researched baby gear like crazy when I was pregnant, but I think I was surprised at what we actually needed and used. Of course, this list will be different for every mom and baby but these are items that we use on a daily (hourly) basis.

My Top 5 Baby Gear Items:

1. Arm’s Reach Co-Sleeper

We were planning on using a super cute moses basket on a rocking stand but our little guy ended up hating it and I found myself hovering above it all night. After 2 nights of that, we gave in and bought a co-sleeper. Mom and baby are sleeping so much better now. Well, baby is sleeping better and mom doesn’t have to get out of bed to check on him anymore.

2. Aden+Anais Swaddling Blankets

I adore these breathable swaddling blankets for our summer baby! Not only is there enough fabric for a good swaddle but I also use them to cover up his car seat when we make trips to his pediatricians office or we’re out in public. You’d be surprised how many strangers want to touch a newborn. Call me a germaphobe but I don’t need a sick newborn.

3. ITZBEEN

For the first week we were setting alarms to make sure that we woke up our lazy pre-term feeder. This handy little device has cut out one of our many jobs – we just have to push a button and we know when we last fed him, changed him and when he last slept. I designated the last button for pumping so I can keep track of when I need to pump again.

4. My Brest Friend

The only thing that hasn’t been complicated about breastfeeding for me has been this pillow. If you are planning on breastfeeding, I highly recommend this pillow.

5. Sleepy Wrap

I can’t say enough good things about babywearing. Our little guy gets so much more sleep when I wear him and is alert and ready when I take him out to feed him (something that we’ve had difficultly with). My hands are free to get things done but I’m still able to read his cues and better meet his needs when he’s with me in the wrap.
