Some refer to it as “Witching Hour”. Dr. Sears writes about “Evening Colic” or what he and his wife have nicknamed “Happy Hour”. I call it the “What The Heck Happened To My Sweet And Calm Baby HourS”. Logan is such a happy baby during the day and rarely cries for longer than 30 seconds, especially when I’m wearing him. He is the ideal nighttime baby – rarely if ever cries as long as I read his cues in time. But from about 5pm-9pm, it is like a switch is flipped and my typically calm baby boy starts screaming his head off.
So from about 5pm-9pm, we are doing everything possible to keep him from screaming his head off. I attempt breastfeeding. He cries. I give him breastmilk in a bottle. He cries louder. I change him. He’s calm for a second and starts crying again. I give him a bath. I breath a sigh of relief when he stops crying for 10 whole minutes. I take him out of the bath. He screams. My husband tries holding him. He fusses. I take him outside. Peace for 15 minutes and then he starts crying again. I put him in the swing. Calm for another 10 minutes and then he cries. I try breastfeeding again. He cries again. You get the picture.
What the heck is up with this? I want my angelic baby back! After some googling, this evening crying is apparently fairly common and no one knows what the cause of it is. Some moms have said that it usually only lasts for the first 3 months. PLEASE let this be true! Wish us luck tonight.
Logan is 7 weeks and 2 days old
