Did you know that the EPA estimates 500 billion – one trillion plastic bags are used worldwide every year? Did you know that each plastic bag takes over 1,000 years to break down? Crazy!
ReUsies (super cute name, right?) was started by a couple of Seattle moms who wanted to do something about the amount plastic bags they were using. They wanted to do their part to reduce their carbon footprint. Their solution was to create reusable snack and sandwich bags. Besides being eco-friendly, these bags are just plain cute!
The ReUsies moms recently sent me a snack and sandwich bag to review – in a fun sushi print. As a pumping mama, I’m ALWAYS hungry and have found it helpful to keep healthy snacks on me at all times so I don’t end up picking up something that isn’t so healthy. Instead of plastic bags, I now fill up my ReUsies will trail mix or pretzels or whatever and just stick them in my diaper bag (good practice for a toddler).
These bags work great and are a million times cuter (and eco-friendlier) than plastic bags. I’ve never had any spillage issues, although I wouldn’t put anything liquidy (like my made up word?) in these bags. Once my bags are empty, I simply stick them in the washer with the rest of my clothes and use them again and again. Oh, make sure to attach the velcro before you stick them in the wash so the velcro doesn’t wear out on you. The ReUsies website also says that you can clean them in the dishwasher but I haven’t tried that yet. Either way, they are super easy to clean and re-use.
