Logan hates being spoon fed with a passion so we’re taking a more baby led weaning approach with him. I still want him to get a wide variety of fruits and veggies, especially the ones he can’t quite gnaw at in solid form, so I put purees on whole wheat toast sticks or waffles and he loves being able to feed himself. I think I’ll continue to do this through toddler hood, pureed fruits and veggies are way healthier and nutritious than jam or syrup.
I recently received the Gen O Starter Kit from Plum Organics, which includes 3 varieties of organic Infant cereals, and 6 pouches of Just Fruits and 6 pouches of Second Blends. Their food pouches are the greatest invention ever, seriously convenient. I have a whole freezer full of homemade purees but when we’re on the go I just throw a pouch in my diaper bag and we are ready to go. So far Logan has loved them all (as long as he can feed himself), but his favorite is mango. I craved mango throughout my pregnancy, so no surprise there. I admit that I sampled these purees, for an accurate review of course, and they are seriously yummy.
Plum Organics also sent me 2 packs of the Plum Dispensing Spoons by Boon to review. They screw right on to the pouch, another genius invention. Mr. Independent typically hates spoons, doesn’t matter the brand, so I didn’t have much hope for these spoons. I’ve only been able to get MAYBE 2 spoonfuls of puree in his mouth prior to trying the dispensing spoons. He literally clamps his mouth shut and turns his head when he sees a spoon. I gave the dispensing spoons a try and Logan was distracted enough with the pouch that he actually allowed a spoon to go near his lips! He ate about 4 bites via the dispensing spoon, that is a world record in this house. Of course now he’s caught on and we’re back to self feeding but these spoons seriously are awesome. If you have a spoon liking baby, definitely try them!
