Uncommon Goods is one of the coolest shops around and I’m proud to include it in the Father’s Day Gift Guide. Just like the name of the company says, they offer unique and uncommon products that make for cool gifts. They’ve got fondue sets, beer making kits, sock monkey gear, desktop bowling…I could spend hours surfing this website, they have so many fun things. Uncommon Goods allowed Mr. Crafty Nest to pick out an item to review, and I admit that I chuckled just a little when I discovered what he picked. He picked out a purse…errr…a handbag…I mean, a man bag. He made sure I knew that it is a manly man bag – made out of tough and rough mosquito nets (how cool is that?). Mr. Crafty Nest’s Manly Opinion:
I’ve been in need and in search of a good “Man Bag” for months now.I’m not usually one to want to tote around a bunch of stuff, but I recently bought a new smart phone and Nintendo 3DS that I want to take with me and protect, as well as have a storage spot for my laptop and some lunch if I get hungry.
So, you can imagine how excited I was to receive this very unique commuter bag.It’s made from mosquito nets, giving it a really cool, iridescent look to it.It lays nice and flat against your body so it doesn’t look like you’re toting around a big purse.I plan to lay the strap across my body, with the bag laying towards my back rather than towards my front…just a personal preference.
The bag has two main compartments, one with a safety Velcro strap to secure your laptop.The outer compartment has a small pocket for your smaller cell phones, and a larger one that fits my Thunderbolt smart phone just fine.There’s a key holder that latches on to your keys for easy access, so you can free up your pockets with this thing!Also, there’s a large zipper pocket in the inner laptop compartment to hide your personal stuff, or stuff you don’t want flying around in the bag should you take a tumble for some strange reason…maybe you skateboard…I don’t know.And if you fall into a lake…again for some strange reason…then your bag will be safe from water damage…the contents however probably won’t as the bag is not water tight, only water-resistant, so be careful!
Overall, an awesome man bag that comes in either blue or gray, and can be a conversation piece to boot!Who else do you know that has a repurposed mosquito net bag?That should net you at least 15 to 20 minutes of conversation right there.
