Forgotten Anniversary

This is what happens when you’ve been married for 4 years, someone forgets a wedding anniversary. I woke up in a chipper mood yesterday expecting to be spoiled with roses or maybe a cup of yummy Starbucks goodness. Nope, I got nothing. Mr. Crafty Nest rushed out the door to go to work without even a “Happy Anniversary”. He didn’t even give me a chance to give him his gift.

What the heck? This is the man that sent me roses practically bi-weekly when we were dating. This is the man who actually remembers our dating anniversary. This is the man who spends hours mulling over which greeting card he should get me that expresses his sentiments perfectly. This is the man who just forgot our 4th wedding anniversary.

All day long I was stewing that he walked out the door without even acknowledging our anniversary, plotting the perfect passive aggressive revenge. Mr. Crafty Nest got home from work and I fully expected a heartfelt apology coupled with a gift certificate for the best “I’m sorry” spa day. I got nothing. Seriously, who forgets the day that they were married?! The day that they said their vows and walked down the aisle?! The day that they exchanged rings and became one?!

Steaming inside, I calmly asked Mr. Crafty Nest if he had forgotten something. He asked what I was talking about. OUR 4th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY, ring a bell? Mr. Crafty Nest looked at me like I was nuts and asked me if I wanted to stay in or go out TOMORROW. Ok, he’s seriously not getting it and why is he so calm? He should be groveling at my feet and promising to make it up to me for as long as we both shall live. Instead he was trying to play it cool and act like he planned on celebrating a day late all along.

I was furious…until Mr. Crafty Nest gently reminded me that our wedding anniversary wasn’t until today. Oops. I forgot our anniversary, like couldn’t even remember the day we got married and had to double check my calendar. Embarrassed, I pulled out his gift and we celebrated our pre-anniversary. I think this is the start of a new tradition.

I love you and look forward to growing old with you Mr. Crafty Nest, even if I’m a crazy forgetful wife who must drive you insane most of the time!
