Heidi is the author of sew.craft.create, a blog about her life as a mommy-blogger/crafter/photography-buff/whatever-else there is! She has three darling kiddos in tow that she lovingly refers to as: “Miss M” (4 years old), “Little l” (2 years old), and “Little-Man-Child” (8 years old). In her own words, “I’m constantly yammering on about something or another and I’d love for you to come on over and join in on my somewhat-chaotic life!”
In Heidi’s words: A few weeks ago Vanessa contacted me, asking me if I’d participate in a craft challenge called “Do Something Crafty!” I was stoked because, as you can probably already tell, I L.O.V.E. to craft! and who doesn’t love free crafting materials, am I right? 🙂
I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous I saw what she sent me: fabric and yarn. We just moved across the country in early August, and due to a series of unfortunate events, all of our stuff is just now coming across the country in a moving truck {including my sewing machine and all crochet hooks!}. Now that I think about it, I should have been nervous about anything she sent, being that nearly all of my crafting tools are MIA 😉
So I thought, and thought, and thought, and thought… and then I was tired of thinking so I walked into the kitchen, grabbed a glass of OJ, leaned up against the counter, looked across my living room… and there it was, sitting on my mantel… begging for a makeover…
Although the Grecian look it kind-of timeless, this vase had reached it’s “heidi expiration date” {not hard to do in my home!}. So I grabbed my glue gun and ripped the fabric into 3/4 inch strips. I twisted them and hot-glued them around the vase {you need to twist and pull the fabric tightly as you go}. Then I took the yarn twisted into into little circles and hot-glued them around the top. This was a little bit tricky but I have a step-by-step tutorial on my blog right now that should help. Then I whipped up a felt flower and hot glued it to the side.
It was a really fun project and super easy! and lets be honest, who among us doesn’t have one of these vases from the local craft store? 🙂 It’s also really great because it doesn’t require much skill (except for a keen ability to not burn yourself on the glue-gun! lol)
I am so happy with this vase now! It looks like I got it from anthropology {at least, I think so! lol} not the swap-meet where I originally got it!
So grab yourself some material and a glue-gun and get to work! 🙂 Thanks again Vanessa for helping me get my creative without all my crafting gear!
Check back tomorrow to see what our last blogger crafted up!
