Remember my 30 Before Thirty list? Beaducation is helping me complete #7 on my list – learn a new craft. For a few years now, I’ve wanted to learn how to create stamped jewelry. You know those metal mom necklaces with the kids names stamped on them or those inspirational necklaces with words like “faith” or “believe” stamped on them, THAT is what I want to learn how to make. Wouldn’t they make great gifts for friends?
Beaducation sent me their steel bench block and Stamping on Metal Starter Kit, which has everything I need to get started. The starter kit includes a letter and number set, hole punch, copper sheet (for practice), assortment of blanks, assortment of jump rings, copper ball chain and clasp, sterling silver ball chain, industrial sharpie pen, 2 polish pads and an instruction booklet. I just needed to supply the hammer, which we of course already had in our toolbox. In addition to the detailed instruction booklet, Beaducation also offers a free online Stamping on Metal class and a free Stamped Jewelry Designs Idea class.
A necklace with Logan’s name and birth date has been on my wish list since he was born, so my first creation was just that. Thank goodness that the kit came with a copper practice sheet, because I clearly needed the practice (notice the upside down G in the second picture). My letters weren’t perfectly straight in the finished product, but I absolutely love it and at least all of my letters are upright! I plan on adding a little charm of Logan’s birthstone to the necklace. This is a fairly easy craft to learn, but it does require some practice.
