I am an Origami Owl Blog Ambassador and this post has been compensated. All opinions are mine alone.
I purchased my very first Origami Owl locket when I was pregnant with Amelia. Inside I included birth stones for my kiddos. Well, the birthstone I thought Amelia would be because she arrived early. Her birth was fast and furious, which is true to her spunky little personality! I think I’ll keep the wrong birthstone in my locket, because that story is so special to me. It’ll always remind me of her adventurous “ready or not, here I come” attitude toward life. My first locket also has a little computer inside, because blogging is such a huge part of my life and I was also writing Party in a Jar at the time. The last charm in my first locket is a starfish. Have you heard of the story of the starfish? Google it! It’s a story about hope and perseverance, even when things seem pointless. It was a wonderful reminder to me as a social worker when I started feeling jaded.
“Simple it’s not, I’m afraid you will find, for a mind maker-upper to make up his mind”
― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go!
Because my first locket, that I still regularly wear, represents such a specific point in time for me, I didn’t want to add or take away charms from it. That’s the beauty of Origami Owl, they truly are living lockets that contain memories and emotions. You can, of course, interchange your charms as much as you like…or you can keep it preserved in time, like your fellow sentimental mama. I decided to create a new locket, full of new memories and adventures.
“Out there things can happen, and frequently do,
To people as brainy and footsy as you.
And when things start to happen, don’t worry, don’t stew.
Just go right along, you’ll start happening too!”
― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go!
I received Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss shortly after high school graduation and his words have stuck with me. Go figure that I’d turn to Dr. Seuss for advice about life, but he’s a smart cookie! So, that was the theme of my new locket – the places I’ve been, the trials I’ve had, the lessons I’ve learned and the adventures up ahead. The balloon charm represents my hometown, Albuquerque, NM. Fitting for a town that houses the International Balloon Fiesta, but it also represents spreading my wings and taking the leap away from there. I moved to Austin, TX for grad school, which is where the Texas charm comes in. After I got married, I moved to Arizona to be closer to family. All of these places hold such special memories, people and lessons. I love that a tiny little locket can capture all of that. This locket has room for more charms, more places and memories – oh the places I’ll go!
“So be sure when you step, Step with care and great tact.
And remember that life’s A Great Balancing Act.
And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed)
Kid, you’ll move mountains.”
― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go!
