We’re road tripping it with the kids in a few days and heading to the beach, so we stopped by Safeway to grab some snacks before hitting the road. Traveling with kids and trying to keep them entertained during the drive can be tough, but I’ve discovered a few ways to make the journey a little easier. One of my favorite road trip hacks for traveling with kids is using an over the door shoe hanger as a car organizer. It’s the perfect way to store snacks, activities and toys for our little back seat drivers. I fill it with fun snacks, stickers, markers or crayons and small toys. Everything is at arms reach for them, so they aren’t constantly having to ask mom and dad for snacks or entertainment. Plus, all of the pockets help keep our car organized and less messy throughout the trip. When we road trip, I like packing snacks that the kids might not typically eat all the time. It’s a big treat for them and keeps everyone happy. Happy travels!

DIRECTIONS

Step 1: Head to Safeway and pick up road trip snacks. I found Wheat Thins and Skittles in the Candy/Cookie Aisle and CapriSun in the Juice Aisle.

Step 2: If your shoe hanger is longer than 2 rows down, cut the extra pockets off. Children won’t be able to reach past 2 pocket rows and you can use the extra pockets for more car organization, just poke holes at the top.

Step 3: Pre-package snacks into smaller serving sizes in little baggies, so they are ready to hand out in the car.

Step 4: Fill the shoe organizer with your snacks. You can also include other items that will keep the kids occupied, such as art supplies and small toys.

Step 5: Using a piece of string, attach the shoe organizer to the front seat so it faces the back seat (see photo). Make sure it is secure for the trip.

I LOVE this idea, and need to swap all my useless backseat organizers to this. Perfect for road trips and everyday. #client
