On Christmas Eve, I was enjoying spending time with my family. I was watching Logan’s eyes light up when the Christmas tree lights went on. I was doing some last minute present wrapping. I was looking forward to celebrating my baby’s first Christmas.
On Christmas Eve, the Campbell family probably had plans to do a lot of the same things that my family was doing but instead they were stuck at a hospital. Actually, they didn’t even know where exactly they were because they were airlifted there after bringing their baby to the ER for a fever.
On Christmas Eve, they were probably looking forward to celebrating their baby’s first Christmas but instead they were discovering that she had leukemia. At just 28 days old, baby Molly was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a cancer of the white blood cells that was rapidly filling her body. The family was told just how severe her condition was and they prepared for the worst – they said their goodbyes.
I absolutely couldn’t imagine.
I couldn’t imagine taking my baby to the hospital for a fever and possibly not walking out of the hospital with him in my arms. I couldn’t imagine having to say goodbye to him so quickly, or ever. I couldn’t imagine what this family went through that day. What they are going through.
Baby Molly is currently making progress with treatment but it is a daily battle. She is expected to remain at B.C. Children’s Hospital in Vancouver for the remainder of her first year of life, if not longer. The family has had to uproot their life, including the lives of their 4 other children, to Vancouver in order for Molly to get the care that she needs. Undoubtedly, this has been financially difficult on them. So, if you can, please consider donating to help support this family during this challenging time.

My buddy Erin over at Ink Tree Press has set up an Etsy shop for Molly with proceeds going to the Campbell family. Check out Art For Molly (I just bought a pair of pretty earrings). If you are an artist, please consider donating an item to this shop (contact inkymouse@gmail.com).
