I’m excited to announce that Rockabye Baby is kicking off our Father’s Day Gift Guide! Rockabye Baby takes popular albums and transforms them into child appropriate lullabies. I need to just say a huge THANK YOU to Rockabye Baby for kid friendly music that doesn’t involve the ABC song…or Mary Had A Little Lamb…or Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars…or any of the other songs that are on non-stop repeat in my head. Last Father’s Day I got Mr. Crafty Nest the Lullaby Renditions of Tool album and it is actually a great CD for nap time, I bet Tool never imagined their music soothing a little baby to sleep. This year, Mr. Crafty Nest got to review the new Lullaby Renditions of Def Leppard album, which he was stoked about. The only thing that would make Rockabye Baby better in my book? A Dave Matthews Band album. Come on Rockabye Baby Peeps, give me some Dancing Nancies and Ants Marching!
Mr. Crafty Nest’s Manly Opinion:
Here’s what the back of the CD case has to say: “Rockabye Baby transforms timeless rock songs into beautiful instrumental lullabies. Guitars and drums are traded for soothing mellotrons, vibraphones and bells, and the volume is turned down from an eleven to a two. Rockabye Baby is the perfect way to share the music you love with the littlest rocker in your life. No more hysteria! If your fussy baby is bringin’ on the heartbreak, pour some sugar on those cries with lullaby versions of your favorite Def Leppard songs. The gentle instrumentals aren’t foolin’ when it comes to soothing your sleepy little one. Let’s get rocked!”
Let’s get rocked indeed! I couldn’t agree more. Def Leppard is one of my all time favorite bands growing up as an 80’s kid (I was born in the late 70’s, but identify with the 80’s just a tiny bit more). Def Leppard is a hard rock band from jolly old England, with a sound all their own. They had many number one hits in the MTV heydays, including Pour Some Sugar On Me, and Love Bites. I used to collect every single one of their tapes: yes I said “tapes.” I’m old, haha! I still have them in mint condition in a cassette storage box somewhere around here, and this Rockabye Baby! CD will join my collection after I rip the music to Baby Crafty Nest’s two iPod Nano’s. Why does Baby Crafty Nest have two iPod Nano’s you ask? One for his nursery and one for his parent’s room, that’s why! I’m glad you asked. My personal favorites on the CD are “Photograph” and “Rock of Ages” from the Pyromania days, “Bringing on the Heartbreak” from the High n’ Dry days. I’m old school.
If you’ve never listened to an album by the Rockabye Baby folks, you and your little one are missing out on a wonderful shared experience. These guys and gals take your favorite adult hits and recreate them with a minimalist approach that removes the lyrics and heavy edge, literally transforming each Def Leppard song into a children’s tune. While it sounds on the surface like this might make your favorite Def Leppard song unidentifiable, this is where you’d be wrong my friend. You can definitely tell exactly which song you’re listening to. They retain the essence of the melody, and create a calm environment for you and your baby to enjoy. Whether you’re rocking your baby to sleep in your arms, or laying down in their nursery watching them play with building blocks (or dollys for all you daughter havers out there!), listening to this CD will bring back fond memories for you, and stimulate the ears and minds of your precious little ones.
