For the next 22 days I will be posting about something I’m thankful for. I hope you’ll join me in remembering what this season is really about. Whether you want to blog about 22 things your thankful for in a single post or do 22 separate posts, it all works. Today, I’m thankful for a job I love. Who knew that typing out my very first blog post back in 2008 would lead to so much more (anyone still around from my Designs by Vanessa days?). I was a social worker, working in the foster care/adoption field, and I needed a creative outlet to channel my frustrations of a broken system. A craft blog and etsy shop it was. The etsy shop is long gone, but the blog remained. Well, evolved into 2 other blogs (that’s a long story) and now we’re here. My home away from home. My second baby. My second spouse. My creative outlet.

Somewhere along the road, this fun little hobby of mine turned into a full time paying gig. See mom and dad, I’m not wasting that journalism degree I got. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all marshmallows and cupcakes 24/7. Blogging…freelance writing…whatever you want to call it, is a ton of work. I’m also a mom first, so my blogging job waits until the little guy is sleeping, which basically means that I’m seriously lacking in the sleep department (hence all of the typos you might find here that my journalism professors would cringe at).

But I LOVE it. All of it! I get to be at home with my child and play with glitter and glue guns for a paycheck. Pretty sweet gig. Also, I have to admit that I still get all excited when I see my name printed in a magazine. I couldn’t be more grateful for this blog and the opportunities, friendships and happiness it has brought me.
