I received an all expense paid trip from Disney to attend the #Cars3Event. The opinions expressed here are my own and I received no monetary compensation. #PuppyDogPalsEvent #ABCTVEvent #TheToyBox #BornInChina
If you have a child who is a budding animator or would like to learn more about the behind the scenes work at Pixar, this post has your name written all over it! While I was in San Fransisco for the Cars 3 press trip a couple months ago, I had to opportunity to learn about Pixar in a Box from the Khan Academy. If you’ve never heard about the Khan Academy, it’s this amazing online resource dedicated to providing FREE education to anyone, anywhere. They offer a variety of different subjects and levels, even test prep for the SAT, MCAT, GMAT, etc.
The Khan Academy partnered with Pixar to develop Pixar in a Box, a behind-the-scenes look at how Pixar artists do their jobs. I absolutely love that this program shows kids exactly what they can do with those math and science skills that they are “forced” to learn. The lesson plans are well thought out, engaging and feature real Pixar artists. There are guides for both the learner and the educator, making teaching at home (or even in the classroom) very easy. The lessons all have assigned grade levels and many are appropriate for all ages, just check the educator guide.
As I was sitting in the presentation, learning about Pixar in a Box, I couldn’t wait to share it with my 6 year old. My son is currently debating between becoming a Pixar animator or a Disney Imagineer. We are clearly pretty big Disney nerds around here. He never leaves home without his sketchbook and is constantly raiding my recycle bin to sculpt with. I’m always looking for ways to harness his creativity and couldn’t be more excited about Pixar in a Box! We have big plans to work through some of the lessons this summer.
Learn more at Pixar in a Box and be on the lookout for The Science Behind Pixar, a traveling exhibit opening at the Science Museum of Minnesota on June 9. We can’t wait to dive into lessons before heading to see Disney Pixar’s Cars 3, which hits theaters June 16th! Here’s the latest trailer:
