{DIY Tutorial} Photo Canvas

Photo Canvas 2

My dad’s birthday was last month and the only thing he requested was a photo of him with Logan. Well good thing Jen took the requested photo at Logan’s birthday party! I didn’t want to just print it out and hand it to him, so I thought I would get a little creative and turn it into a mini canvas (without the hefty price tag). Such an easy project to do and it makes the perfect gift!

Materials

Canvas
Photo (sized to the canvas)
Mod Podge (gloss or matte)
Paint Brush
Paper Cutter or Scissors
Scrapbook Paper
Ink Pad
Sponge
Mod Podge Sealer (optional)
Small Towel or Cloth

Photo Canvas 1

Directions
Step 1: Use a paper cutter or scissors to trim the scrapbook paper to fit around the border of the canvas.

Step 2: Brush a coat of mod podge onto the back of the scrapbook paper pieces you just cut and attach to the border of the canvas.

Step 3: Brush a coat of mod podge onto the back of the photo and attach to the front of the canvas. Press the picture in place, smoothing it out with a soft towel or cloth so you don’t ruin your photo.

Step 4: Paint a coat of mod podge over the photo and scrapbook paper borders. Allow time to dry.

Step 5: Dip a sponge in the ink pad and sponge ink over the corners and around the photo.

Step 6: You can then spray mod podge sealer over the entire canvas for added protection.

Step 7: Hang and enjoy!

You could have painted the frame and stuck the photo directly onto the painted frame instead of sticking scrapbook paper. The edges are not very neat with the scrapbook paper stuck I think! :D

  2. Erin says:

Where did you get the canvas? What size is the frame?

I got the canvas from Michaels (you can find them at any craft store) and I believe it was an 8×10.
