As much as I complain about pumping, I have to say that it has all been worth it. Not only is it basically free food (aside from the pump rental, which costs less than formula btw) but it is exactly what my baby nutritionally needs. It needs to be said that I have nothing against formula, I was a formula fed baby and didn’t grow a second head or anything crazy. Breastfeeding and pumping can be challenging and not something that works out for everyone.
While breastfeeding wasn’t in the cards for Logan and I, I’m glad that I have been able to pump for as long as I have been able to. Any mom that has pumped an ounce in her life can tell you that it is a ginormous commitment. Someone told me that pumping is like having twins – you have to worry about your baby’s schedule AND your pump schedule. I recently ran into a mom online who has twins and is an EP’er (exclusive pumper for those of you who aren’t hip to the lingo). I now think of her every time I hook myself up to my pump.
There have been a few things that has made pumping easier and tolerable. One of those things is the L’ovedbaby 4-in-1 Nursing Shawl. You ask why a non-breastfeeding pumping mom like myself would need a NURSING shawl? Well, it is perfect for covering up while I pump on the go. What I love about the L’ovedbaby shawl is that you simple stick it on over your head, there aren’t any loops or clasps to wrestle with. I like that the neck hole is roomy enough to actually see what you are doing when it comes to hooking up your pump in the middle of the grocery store parking lot without flashing anyone. The shawl can also be used as a pregnancy poncho, canopy for the stroller or carseat, and lightweight blankie. It is machine washable and dryer safe, a must for any pumping/nursing cover up. Also, it is just plain pretty.
