I’ve been a fan of Glee’s natural (Vegetarian, Additive Free, Lactose Free, Dairy Free, Wheat Free, Gluten Free, Casein Free, Egg Free, Yeast Free, Nut Free, and Peanut Free…WHEW!) chewing gum for awhile, so I was excited when they sent me one of their Make Your Own Chewing Gum Kits to review.
I enlisted the help of my mom, who loathes DIY projects (I think I might have been switched at birth) but agreed to be my assistant none the less. I probably should have eased her into the DIY world slowly because this project is just a tad messy – kids would LOVE it! The kit includes easy to follow along instructions and the packages are labeled with what is what. The kit has all of the ingredients you need to make gum, so no need to buy anything extra.
The kit took us maybe 30 minutes to complete and after a bit of mixing/melting/kneading, we had gum – that actually tasted like gum! Not that I doubted that it would, but someone else (by the name of my mother) may have had their doubts. I can’t wait to buy another kit for Logan when he gets a little older (and can handle the messy parts himself), I think it will be a fun way to teach him about how gum is made and where it comes from (Glee’s gum base comes from Sapodilla trees in the rain forests of Central America).
