Our local children’s museum has this fun pretend play ice cream parlor that my kids could play at all day. A pretend play ice cream set for home has been on my to do list all summer. Coming from a social worker, pretend play is so important for kids. Play is how children communicate, cope and deal with their big worlds. I love watching my kids play and seeing what’s on their minds. With the help of Scotch® Brand, crafting this project was super easy! My kids had a blast taking ice cream orders and it eventually led to a counting and matching game. Hours of fun and endless pretend play possibilities!

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Head to the Walmart craft aisle and pick up your supplies. Both Scotch® Brand and Command™ products are now available in the craft aisle at Walmart. From masking tapes to spray adhesives and everything in between, no matter the task, there’s a Scotch® Brand product to match.

Step 2: Stick a toothpick in each foam ball to use as a handle while painting. Using acrylic paint and a foam brush, paint the foam balls. Allow to completely dry and remove toothpicks.

Step 3: While the foam balls are drying, get started on the cones. Use the utility knife to cut out a triangular shape, as shown below, through the brown craft foam.

Step 4: Use the permanent mounting tape to roll and secure the brown foam into cone shapes, as shown below.

Step 5: Repeat step 3 & 4 for the colorful paper, but use double sided tape to secure instead.

Step 6: Place the brown craft foam “cones” in the colorful paper “wrappers”. Your children are ready to pretend play, serving up foam “ice cream” balls on cones.
