Break out your instant pot for game day! We’ll be cooking up a batch of honey barbecue meatballs in under 30 minutes. If you don’t have an instant pot, this recipe can also be adapted for the crockpot. Not only are they super easy to make using just a handful of ingredients, they are also a delicious crowd pleaser! This is one of my favorite party recipes because it makes a large batch in such a short amount of time. Plus, I love serving something savory to balance out all the inevitable sweets. Serve with toothpicks or add some rolls and guests can make mini meatball sandwiches.
Head to Walmart to pick up all of your ingredients and other game day party essentials, like Bounty Select-A-Size Super Rolls and Dawn Original. I use Dawn soap for pretty much everything, from removing stains to cleaning grout, and I wouldn’t dare host a party without it. I also like to have Febreze ONE Fabric and Air Mist on hand for a quick spritz before guests arrive. Bamboo scent is my favorite! Guests might also appreciate you keeping a can in the bathroom. Right now, if you buy 1 select game day essential product at Walmart, you get $0.50 back, plus you can earn an extra $1 bonus back when you purchase and redeem 2 products and use the ibotta app. Score!
Now that your appetizers and game day essentials are taken care of, let’s chat party decor. You can make a table runner using green paper or fabric and white paint. Paint or stencil the yard line numbers on the runner to look like a football field. Search the Walmart party aisles for fun football decor, like paper straws and football picks. If you have a football laying around, that’s always a fun centerpiece and you can stand it up using a jelly jar if you don’t have a football stand. Have fun cheering on your team and keep reading for my honey BBQ meatball recipe!
INGREDIENTS
2 lbs frozen cooked meatballs
36oz barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons honey
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Add 1 cup of water to the instant pot and place the steamer grate inside. Add the frozen meatballs and steam for 5 minutes (using the steam button). Use the quick release, drain the water and remove the steamer grate.
Step 2: Add the meatballs back to the pot, along with the barbecue sauce and honey.
Step 3: Use the sauté function for 10 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce is hot. Set the instant pot to warm and serve out of the pot for up to 2 hours.
To make in a crockpot, spray the pot with cooking spray. Combine thawed meatballs and other ingredients in the pot. Cook on high for 3 hours. This is great if you have a 3 hour+ prep window, otherwise I recommend the Instant Pot version.
Head to Walmart for all your game day essentials. What will you be cooking for the big day?
