FIZZY BATH SALTS RECIPE INSPIRED BY THE PIGEON BOOK SERIES
Mo Willems is a number one New York Times best-selling author and illustrator of many of our favorite books, including the Pigeon series, and our favorite Pigeon is celebrating his 16th BIRD-day this month! The Pigeon series has made our bedtime story routine that much more enjoyable throughout the years with Mo Willems’ words and illustrations. The newest addition to the series, The Pigeon HAS to Go to School, hits shelves on June 2nd and we can’t wait to add this book to our collection.
To celebrate Pigeon’s 16th BIRD-day , we’ve made fun DIY bath salts inspired by one of our favorites, The Pigeon Needs a Bath!
One of our favorite Pigeon series books is The Pigeon Needs a Bath Book! My oldest HATED baths, or rather he disliked the process of getting into the bath but once he was in there, it was difficult to get him out. He could most definitely relate to the Pigeon who wants nothing to do with bathtime, until he actually tries it.
There are ways to make bath time fun for the little ones who might be skeptical! Pick up the “bath book” version of The Pigeon Needs a Bath so the book can be enjoyed inside the tub! To make bath time even more enticing, we made our own fizzy bath salts inspired by Pigeon.
INGREDIENTS TO MAKE FIZZY BATH SALTS
Only a few simple ingredients are needed to make fizzy bath salts:
1 Cup Baking Soda
1 Cup Epsom Salt
½ Cup Citric Acid
½ Cup Corn Starch
3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
5-10 Drops Essential Oil
Blue Skin-Safe Dye
HOW TO MAKE FIZZY BATH SALTS
Combine the baking soda, epsom salt, citric acid and corn starch together in a large mixing bowl.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Use a whisk or spatula to mix in the olive oil, essential oil and blue dye. Add the dye one drop at a time, mixing and adding more until you are happy with the color. Make sure there are no clumps.
Place the fizzy bath salts inside 2 pint size mason jars. You can keep one jar and gift the other, along with The Pigeon Needs a Bath Book.
DOWNLOAD THE FIZZY BATH SALTS JAR LABELS
You can download the bath salts label HERE. Simply print out the labels on white cardstock paper, cut out the circles and place them on the lids before twisting the rim shut. This would make an adorable gift idea for any child to make bath time more fun!
HOW TO USE FIZZY BATH SALTS
Place a few tablespoons of the bath salts in the bath water and watch it get fizzy. The citric acid ingredient in the recipe is what creates the fun fizz. Store in an airtight glass mason jar when not in use. Enjoy bath time with Pigeon!

Hi Vanessa,
Thank you for sharing an interesting post. I love Crafting. Every day I try to make new things. My eight years daughter loves your post. And she always tries to make things by following your post. Now she wants to make Fizzy Bath Salts, but no citric acid at home. So my question is, Is there any alternative to citric acid for making Fizzy Bath Salts?
Hi there! You can definitely make these bath salts without the citric acid, but they won’t fizz up when in water. It’ll still smell yummy and work great in the bath!
